Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Valbuena will miss four to six weeks after an MRI revealed a right hamstring strain, the team announced Thursday.
The 31-year-old Valbuena had left Wednesday's spring training game after only three innings due to the injury. It was not clear when it occurred.
Valbuena was expected to be the Angels' primary option at first base.
"We're counting on him a lot this year," manager Mike Scioscia told reporters, according to the Los Angeles Times. "He's a great fit for us. We're just going to have to wait until he's 100 percent healthy and see where he is."
In Valbuena's absence, C.J. Cron is expected to take over full-time duties at first base.
