NEW YORK -- The Oakland Athletics have scratched right-hander Kendall Graveman from his start at Yankee Stadium.
The Athletics didn't announce why Graveman wouldn't pitch Friday night in the series opener at New York. Graveman wasn't listed to start in the three-game set and was not assigned a locker in the visitors' clubhouse. He is 2-2 with 3.83 ERA in eight starts.
Left-hander Sean Manaea, 2/3 with a 5.24 ERA in seven starts, moved up a day and took Graveman's place. Manaea will be pitching on five days' rest.
Right-hander Jharel Cotton will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville and start Saturday. Cotton was 3-4 with a 5.68 ERA before he was optioned to Nashville on May 11. He was 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in a pair of minor league starts, striking out 13 and walking one in 12 innings.
Cotton traveled from Nashville on Friday and arrived at Yankee Stadium after a 90-minute bus ride from LaGuardia Airport. He will be making his first appearance at Yankee Stadium.
