The Los Angeles Angels got back to the .500 mark with a 12-2 rout of theDetroit Tigers, but it might have come at a cost.
ShortstopErick Aybar, the only Angels player to start every game at the same position this season, pulled his left hamstring running to first base in the bottom of the fifth and was replaced at shortstop by Taylor Featherston. He had gone 1-for-2, including a squeeze bunt to third baseman Nick Castellanos with the infield in to give the Angels a 4-1 lead in the fifth.
Manager Mike Scioscia said the Angels are not expecting Aybar to need a trip to the disabled list, according to the Orange County Register.
"We will definitely make sure he's 100 percent before he gets back in the lineup," Scioscia said, according to the Register. "This guy is as important as anyone you want to talk about on our team."
After an opening month that saw him hitting just .222, Aybar is hitting .310 in May with a.343 on-base percentage, five extra-base hits and six RBIs.
Scioscia said Aybar's injury was "the only fly in the ointment" of a badly needed display of offense.
