FRESNO, Calif. -- Marvelle Harris made just one of two free throws with five seconds left but it was enough to secure a 68-66 victory for Fresno State over Air Force on Wednesday night, foiling an upset bid.
Fresno State (15-15, 10-7 Mountain West), secured sixth place and a first-round bye in the upcoming conference tournament.
Air Force (13-16, 6-12) had closed to 67-66 on a pair of Max Yon free throws and a Hayden Graham layup off a steal with under a minute to go.
Fresno State turned the ball over on a 10-second violation with 21 seconds left. The Falcons, however, were forced to call their final timeout to avoid a five-second violation on the inbounds. Marek Olesinski and Graham missed 3-point attempts -- the latter blocked by Julien Lewis.
Cezar Guerrero led the Bulldogs with 18 points, Lewis 17, Harris and Paul Watson 10 each. Harris added nine assists.
Graham scored 14 for Air Force.
