PHILADELPHIA -- Newly acquired left-hander Matt Moore will make his first start with the San Francisco Giants on Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies, bumping veteran right-hander Jake Peavy from the rotation to the bullpen.
The National League West-leading Giants acquired Moore from Tamp Bay for infielder Matt Duffy and two minor leaguers to help get back on track after losing 11 of 15 games since the All-Star break.
Manager Bruce Bochy said prior to Tuesday's game against Philadelphia that the 27-year-old lefty would take the place of Peavy, who struggled to a 1-2 record with a 5.54 ERA in five July starts.
Bochy says Peavy took the news in stride, saying "he's all-in" and that "whatever we need him to do to help the ballclub, he's willing to do."
