Kings sign point guard David Stockton through 2015-16 season

The Sacramento Kings, as expected, announced Sunday that they've signed guard David Stockton to a multi-year deal.

ESPN.com reported early Saturday that Stockton, son of Hall of Fame guard John Stockton, would rejoin the Kings this weekend and fill the roster spot vacated by the end of center Sim Bhullar's 10-day deal, which had made Bhullar the first player of Indian descent in NBA history.

The younger Stockton, 23, was formally signed by the Kings on Sunday for the rest of the season and for 2015-16 on a non-guaranteed basis after playing out a 10-day contract of his own with Sacramento last month. Stockton rang up a string of triple-doubles after returning to the Reno Bighorns of the NBA D-League and, thanks to the second year on his new contract, will have an opportunity to make the Kings' 2015-16 roster in training camp.

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Stockton averaged 20.1 points, 9.4 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.5 steals in 43 games for Reno this season. He went undrafted out of Gonzaga, where his father played collegiately before a 19-season run with the Utah Jazz that ended in 2003 with John Stockton ranking as the league's all-time assist leader.

Bhullar, meanwhile, remains in the Kings' plans. The 7-foot-5 center spent the bulk of the season playing alongside Stockton in Reno with the Kings' D-League affiliate and is expected to return to Sacramento's NBA Summer League squad in Las Vegas in July, given Kings owner and India activist Vivek Ranadive's fondness for him.
