ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Angels put catcher Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list because of soreness in his left knee Monday, only eight days after he returned from knee surgery.

Soto played two games after coming back, but was scratched from the lineup on Sunday. The Angels called up Juan Graterol from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Soto emerged as the Angels' starting catcher this season before tearing his meniscus on an elliptical machine in late May and opting to undergo surgery. In his first season with Los Angeles, he's played in 22 games, hitting .284 with three home runs and eight RBI.

The Angels also claimed infielder Sean Coyle off waivers from the Boston Red Sox and optioned him to Double-A Arkansas. To make room on the roster, right-hander A.J. Achter was designated for assignment.
