The San Diego Padres placed pitcher Andrew Cashner on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a strained neck.
Cashner left his start Friday against the Colorado Rockies after throwing just six pitches. The right-hander is 3-5 with a 4.75 ERA this season.
He was on the DL last month with a strained right hamstring.
To replace Cashner on the active roster, the Padres recalled right-hander Erik Johnson from Single-A Lake Elsinore.
Johnson, who was acquired last week in the trade that sent James Shields to the Chicago White Sox, will make his Padres debut Saturday in Colorado.
