Tim Howard made two saves on his Colorado debut as the Rapids played to a 0-0 draw with the Portland Timbers on Monday night.

Howard dove to his right to stop Darren Mattocks' right-footed shot in the 54th minute and denied Lucas Melano with his foot 10 minutes later.

Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson had four saves for his second shutout of the season.

Howard, who played for the MetroStars (now the New York Red Bulls) between 1998 and 2003, returned to MLS after 13 years in the Premier League with Manchester United and Everton. Colorado acquired Howard through allocation after the Rapids secured the No. 1 spot in the ranking order.

Elsewhere, Walker Zimmerman, Michael Barrios, Matt Hedges and Fabian Castillo scored as FC Dallas took the overall lead in the MLS standings with a 4-0 win over Orlando City.

Zimmerman opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a right-footed volley to finish Mauro Diaz's corner into the far netting.

Maximiliano Urruti crossed it in as Barrios sped past defender Luke Boden and chipped it over goalkeeper Joe Bendik to make it 2-0 in the 21st.

Hedges headed home Diaz's free kick in the 61st minute and Castillo's goal in the 92nd capped the scoring.

In Monday's late match, Robbie Keane and Jeff Larentowicz scored, Steven Gerrard assisted both, as the LA Galaxy beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0.

Keane opened the scoring in the 12th minute, taking Gerrard's feed near the penalty arc and bending a right-footed shot into the top right corner. Keane was in his first MLS action since May 22 due to international duty with Ireland at the European Championship.

Larentowicz headed home Gerrard's corner in the 47th minute and the Galaxy held on after Nigel de Jong was sent off in the 74th minute due to a serious foul.

Brian Rowe had three saves in the final 15 minutes to preserve his fourth shutout of the season and LA ended a seven-game winless streak that included a run of 371 scoreless minutes. It was the club's longest winless streak since the 2012 season.
