SEATTLE --Padrescenter fielderWil Myers returned to San Diego to have his sore left wrist examined by team doctors a day after being a late scratch from the lineup.

The team sent Myers home before the finale of its two-game series in Seattle on Wednesday.

Manager Bud Black did not have any updates on Myers' status, but hoped to know more when the Padres open a seven-game homestand on Thursday night against Washington.

"We're hoping that this is a short-term thing," Black said.

Myers was in the lineup for Tuesday's series opener but didn't play after aggravating the discomfort in his wrist during batting practice.

Myers is hitting .291 with five homers and 19 RBIs and leads the Padres in hits and runs scored. Black said Abraham Almonte and Cory Spangenberg are the likely candidates to lead off while Myers is out.
