The man who was shot and killed in a northwest Fresno apartment has been identified.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is dead after gunshots rang out inside a quiet gated community apartment complex in Northwest Fresno early Friday morning.

"There's a lot of little kids in all these complexes around here. That's really scary," neighbor Anjanae Freitas said.

Shortly after midnight, Fresno Police responded to shots fired at the Windscape Apartments on Nees near Poplar Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found 33-year-old Tyler Hamon with a single gunshot wound in his back.

Police say other people were inside the apartment when bullets flew through the front door.

"We found shell casings on the upper landing and bullet holes through the front door," Fresno Police Lieutenant Paul Cervantes said.

Five shots were fired, sending shockwaves through the densely populated community.

"It just sucks we have family that lives here. A lot of us want to know we could come home and I have to worry about anything happening when we are asleep," resident Christian Reynaga said.

Police say Hamon had an extensive criminal history.

This shooting is believed to be gang-related.

"Our victim does have connections more along the lines of Tulare County. He had a prior domestic violence arrest, some prior weapons and evading charges that were dropped," Lt. Cervantes said.

Neighbors say this is not the only incident at the complex in recent weeks.

"There was a drug bust here and then across the street, I guess there was some other stuff going on," Reynaga said. "Three things in a span of two weeks. I think I wish it would kind of stop."

Patrol Cars and CSI vans were at the scene for hours, collecting evidence as the investigation continues.

"We do have some good evidence in this case that's pointing us in some viable leads but at this time we've yet to make an identification," Lt. Cervantes said.

This is the 27th murder in the city of Fresno compared to 26 this time last year.
