Loved ones say the woman could no longer walk and wasn't able to escape her burning mobile home, where she lived for 30 years.
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A woman was killed after a mobile home caught fire in Fresno County on Monday afternoon.
The fire started around 2 p.m. on Nevada Avenue and 11th Street in San Joaquin.
Officials with CAL FIRE/Fresno County Fire say a woman was found dead inside the mobile home.
Family members have identified the woman as 64-year-old Carolina Vasquez, a beloved mother and grandmother.
"She was a really lovable person. She really loved to help the community. She would always make food for everyone," recalled Luptia Mosqueda, Vasquez's daughter.
Family and friends embraced each other as they gathered outside of Vasquez's mobile home on Tuesday to honor her.
"It's just started getting smoky inside, and she couldn't come out. She couldn't move half of her body because she had a stroke last year so she couldn't walk," said Vasquez's son, Franklin Ojeda.
"But she dragged herself all the way to the door."
Ojeda describes what he learned about his mother's final moments.
"She's a fighter, she tried," said Ojeda.
"She tried to get the knob but my mom was kind of short. So, she couldn't reach and then she just fainted."
While everything from the inside to the outside is reduced to rubble, her loved ones found part of her Bible, saying it speaks to her everlasting love for the lord.
Vasquez leaves behind three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandkids.
Mosqueda, who is Vasquez's only daughter, and Ojeda want everyone to know their mother's legacy lives on.
"I'm always going to love her and remember her for who she was, a warrior and a great servant of God," said Mosqueda.
"That I love her so much that I miss her and that I will never forget her," Ojeda added.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Vasquez's family with funeral expenses.
