ALHAMBRA, Calif. -- A 34-year-old Burbank man was beat by family members of a young girl, after he admitted to sexually abusing her.

Authorities say Armando Murillo-Avila molested the girl on several occasions. The incidents occurred when the victim lived in Burbank and then in Alhambra. According to police, the victim was related to Murillo-Avila's girlfriend.

The girl's family members grew suspicious because Murillo-Avila kept coming to the victim's home uninvited and unannounced.

On Aug. 15, the victim told her family about the abuse, and Murillo-Avila confessed. That's when the victim's family members called Alhambra police and Murillo-Avila was arrested. He was charged with unlawful intercourse with a minor and continual sexual abuse of that same minor. He pleaded guilty in court on Wednesday and faces 12 years in prison.

In his booking photo, Murillo-Avila's face appears bruised. Alhambra police said he sustained the injuries when the victim's family confronted him shortly before his arrest.
