He's also recovering after being shot by a deputy during the confrontation.
It happened at Beran Way near Valentine and Muscat just after noon Monday.
A worker reported being chased by a man swinging a machete, who then hit the back of his vehicle.
Deputies pulled up within 10 minutes of the initial call and immediately tried to get Piz to drop the machete and an ax.
When he didn't comply, deputies opened fire.

"They pulled out their less lethal weapons, they fired bean bags at the suspect," says Tony Botti with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office. "They did two separate sets, and it did not have an effect on the suspect."
Officials say Piz then lunged forward and a deputy shot him in the leg with his gun.
He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
No one else was hurt.
