Six people were thrown from an SUV in the wreck on I-5, shutting down a portion of the roadway for more than an hour.

It happened on the interstate and Laval Road in Kern County just before 3 Sunday morning.
Two passengers died at the scene of the single-car crash.
First responders took the four other victims to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The California Highway Patrol identified the driver of the Toyota 4-Runner as a 19-year-old man from Fresno.

The injured passengers are two women and a man -- all three are 20 years old.
Authorities say no one was wearing a seat belt.
Officials do not know if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
