PG&E officials say a third party contractor was working at the site when he hit the gas line.
Clovis Fire officials evacuated the home directly behind the leak, but neighbors tell Action News the entire block fled.

"And you could smell it all the way out here. You could smell the entire gas all the way out there, too," said resident Megan Morris.
The utility company says contractors are required to call PG&E and notify them of digging so crews can mark any gas lines. Officials say the contractor in this case did not notify the utility company and neighbors claim the contractor on site left the scene shortly after the rupture.
Residents say the lot was recently purchased and that a private residence is being built on the land.
