A woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and a man was rushed to the hospital with burn injuries.
The owner of the home, Daniel Maciel, says the woman had been living there for two months.
"I feel empty I wanna cry but I can't I'm here but I feel really bad," said Maciel.
One neighbor, Cliff Raynor, says the sound of the flames and screams woke him up.
"I looked out the window, 'cause our bedroom is right there. At the back of the house, the flames were just high as heck on the shed. So, I called 911," Raynor recalled.
Fire officials say the blaze started around 5 a.m. and the cause remains under investigation.
Just after 11 am, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office began taping up the scene.
"Sheriff's office didn't arrive on scene until we developed some information that is potentially pointing to an arson. We have a questionable death investigation at this point," said Fresno County Sheriff's Lt. Joe Smith.
Investigators are still working to identify the woman who died.
The sheriff's office tells Action News the man injured in the fire is in critical condition.
As of Monday afternoon, no one has been arrested regarding this incident.
