RELATED: Man stabbed to death in southeast Fresno home, suspect at large, police say
Officers first went to the property near Fillmore and Jackson avenues after a chilling call to dispatch reporting an assault just before 7 am.
First responders found 46-year-old Gregory Delacruz suffering from multiple stab wounds.
After attempting life-saving measures, Delacruz died at the scene.
Investigators believe he knew his killer.
"This does not appear to be a random act of violence," Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes said. "This appears to be a situation where an individual was specifically targeted. Reasons for which we don't know at this time."
Detectives are still trying to piece together what led up to the stabbing.
"By all accounts thus far, it appears somebody was there on their own accord, perhaps invited into this location and then something unfolded," Lt. Cervantes explained.
After reviewing video in the area, police were able to spot a suspect walking away from the home after the stabbing.
"Hispanic male in his mid-40s wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. We also have information about light or thinning hair on top. He was about 5'7" with a thin build," Lt. Cervantes described.
The killer remains at large, but police say there is no threat to the public and are asking for the community's help in solving this murder.
"If you do reside in and around that neighborhood, please review your videos and look at the timestamp around 6:50 in the morning," Lt. Cervantes stated.
Anyone with information or video is asked to contact Fresno Police at 559-621-7000 or remain anonymous by dialing 559-498-STOP.
