The 18-year-old is a piano virtuoso. His passion for the instrument started in Taiwan, where he lived as a toddler. As he grew older, his craft started taking shape with discipline and dedication, practicing six hours a day.
In 2018, he found himself playing in a different venue. As his father was being treated for cancer in the hospital, Harrison noticed a piano in the corner and would often play for his father and the nurses.
"I used that piano to play for other patients, and it really touched my heart, the way I can inspire people with the sound of music," said Harrison.
His father's passing motivated him to pursue a career in both medicine and piano.
"It really actually inspired me, for my goal to become a surgeon in the medical field," said Harrison. "I realized that music, however, could touch the soul and could soothe emotions. It can't really heal them physically. And that's kind of what I want to do with my hands as well, not just bring music, but also heal people physically."
Today, Yu is preparing for the next stage: college.
"I'm so proud of him," said Harrisons mom, Sandra Yu. "I believe his dad is proud of him, too."
"I really can't imagine my life without piano," said Harrison, "Being able to share my story to the world through music."
