FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- An admitted sex offender is expected to appear in court Tuesday now that he's been taken into custody after more than two decades on the run. Arturo Rangel, 55, was booked into the Fresno County Jail Friday night.
Rangel was brought back to the Valley after avoiding arrest for 23 years after he was tracked down in Oregon. Back in 1993, he pleaded guilty to five counts of lewd acts with children. He was scheduled to receive seven years in prison, but Rangel was released from jail to address personal matters before sentencing and had been missing ever since.
In July the Fresno County Sheriff's Office received an anonymous tip saying Rangel might be living in Oregon. That information was passed along to a US Marshal who found Rangel living at a home in the city of Myrtle Point and made the arrest.
