Ford driving skills for life

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A group of new and young drivers are now better prepared to take on dangerous driving conditions.

A free program called "Ford driving skills for life" is giving local teens the opportunity to get behind the wheel and train with professional instructors.

For the first time this year, they introduced the teens to the drugged driving suit along side the drunk driving suit, to show them what it's like to drive impaired. Another danger they train for is distracted driving, to show students the potentially deadly consequences of poor choices.

"Plus there was a bunch of other things going on in the car, loud music and windshield wipers and stuff. It's just hard to keep yourself going and also text -- so texting and driving is just -- no you can't do that," said Brian Stewart, 16-year-old driver.

In the United States, car crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers.
