WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Tesla is set to roll out its new, more affordable Model 3 on Thursday. Excited customers are already lined up outside the store in Walnut Creek.
The people at the front of the line said they got there around lunchtime Wednesday. They're waiting to put down a deposit on the new Model 3.
When asked why they were doing it, they responded that it is the first time they're able to afford a Tesla.
The Model 3 is going to cost $35,000. The current Tesla on the market is anywhere between $70,000-$140,000.
Some of the buyers say even they are surprised they're doing this, but they're excited. "I've never done Black Friday or any camping out for anything ever, so I've been waiting so long for this car so I figured spending 12 hours camping out, waiting a little bit longer is not going to suck in the matter," buyer Joe Allen said.
The car is going to be unveiled Thursday at 8:30 p.m., so these people are putting down a deposit on a car they've never even seen or test driven.
They won't get it for a couple more years but they say that's OK, it's more time to save money to pay for the car.
