Gov. Newsom details rules for businesses opening in California on Friday

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- On Thursday, Governor Gavin Newsom and state health officials revealed a set of guidelines for some businesses to open in California on Friday.

Retailers such as bookstores, toy stores and sporting good stores will be able to reopen, and their associated manufacturers can resume production.

We've outlined the guidelines based on business sector:

RETAIL

Retailers can now provide curbside pick-up while practicing physical distancing and wearing face masks and gloves when interacting with customers.

The state said retail businesses should install hands-free devices for payments or to introduce non-direct payment methods, such as paying online.

Stores will need to have hand sanitizer outside of their doors for customers that are picking up items and inside for employees.

MANUFACTURING

Manufacturing plants that supply to reopened retailers will need to implement social distancing between their employees on the floor.

The state said companies should close their indoor break rooms and, if they're able, create open-air break rooms with seating that follows social distancing. The same applies for warehouses.

Workers and delivery drivers should have proper PPE. Delivery trucks should be stocked with sanitation supplies.

The state health department said all industries in California should outline detailed risk assessments for their businesses, train their employees on how to limit spread of the virus, implement temperature checks and update cleaning procedures.

GOING FURTHER INTO PHASE 2

Newsom announced earlier this week that some local governments that believe their cities are further ahead of the state's curve to implement more modifications as long as they meet certain criteria:

The governor said these local governments need to have the approval from their county health departments and board of supervisors to move forward.

Newsom said seated-dining in restaurants, shopping malls and outdoor museums are businesses that could reopen later during phase two.
