ATWATER, Calif. (KFSN) -- A piece of military history has a new home at the Castle Air Museum in Atwater. The large aircraft took its last flight from Stockton, Thursday morning. And the drop-off brought quite a crowd to the airport.

This aircraft, in particular, is a Boeing CH-47-D Chinook and is a combat veteran of both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

"We had a bunch of Chinooks in California out of Stockton, transitioned to F models Chinook so the D models are going away. Last flying California D model," said Doug Jones, pilot.

Thursday's delivery was significant for two reasons. In addition to this being the last flight for the Chinook, it's the last time the man who flew it here will pilot a Chinook. After flying them for 27 years he's going back to flying commercial airlines.

And in case you're wondering he got back home in a minivan he brought over on the chopper.
