Clovis Unified updates dress code, finalizes new bell schedule for 2022-2023
After months of discussion, Clovis Unified has updated its dress code for students.

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- After months of discussion, Clovis Unified has updated its dress code for students.

The school board unanimously approved the changes Wednesday night, and the new rules go into effect Thursday.

Students can now wear distressed denim, leggings and camouflage print. Facial hair, including beards and mustaches, are also allowed.

District spokesperson Kelly Avants said these changes were made so the dress code would be more accessible to everyone.

She says the district has realized that styles have changed and evolved, which was challenging for some families.

The district also encouraged families to become informed about the dress code so students know what is allowed to avoid being sent home to change.

"Explaining to students and parents that this is what the code contains. This is the dress code you should be following when you arrive on campus so that there's never a question when a student arrives on campus. They will know I'm arriving with my clothes in dress code or I'm arriving not in dress code," Avants said.

The board also finalized a new bell schedule that will begin next school year.

Most elementary schools across the district will be starting the school day around 20 or 30 minutes earlier next school year.

High schools such as Clovis East and Buchanan will have later start and finish times.

You can check those updated bell schedules on the Clovis Unified website.
