CHICAGO -- The DuPage County Sheriff's Department would only confirm Wednesday that a death investigation was underway at a home in unincorporated Downers Grove.
However, neighbors said a mother was brutally stabbed to death by her teenage son Tuesday afternoon, in a home in the 2100-block of 63rd Street. Residents of the west suburban neighborhood were shaken by the news.
ABC7 Eyewitness News partner The Daily Herald reports the woman was stabbed "multiple times" and her son is in custody, citing a source involved in the investigation.
Several neighbors told ABC7 a woman and her two adult children lived in the home, where officers gathered evidence Tuesday night. They also said police have not given them much information about what happened.
"There was a stabbing and it was pretty gruesome. I guess it was pretty bloody," said Miranda Schmitt, who lives down the street from the scene. "The son stabbed the mother, which seems a little out of sorts, because from what I know it was a pretty quiet family."
The identities of the victim and her son, who is reportedly in custody, have not been released.
The sheriff's office would not say whether any charges were filed. Investigators remained on the scene Wednesday morning.
