Driver killed in suspected DUI crash in Merced County, CHP says

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A driver suspected of DUI died after slamming into a piece of construction equipment in Merced County early Mondy morning.

It happened along Highway 99 north of Applegate Road.

California Highway Patrol officers said the 28-year-old driver crashed through a construction zone and slammed into a parked paving machine.

The woman died at the scene. Her name has not been released.

Officers believe alcohol was a factor. The crash is still under investigation.
