3,200 military sites under higher security order due to ISIS threats

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- We now know that the head of the U.S. Northern Command has upgraded the terror threat level on all American military bases due to threats from ISIS.

"Groups like ISIL or Al Qaeda now are calling publicly for attacks in the West," said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.

And that's why every U.S. military base is now operating under an increased security level known as Bravo. The level means an increased and predictable threat of terrorism, not used this widely since the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

It also applies to military recruiting locations, ROTC installations, and National Guard Facilities.

"We are fully prepared to increase force protection at any time at all of our military installations," said California National Guard spokesman Brandon Honig. "We train for these types of contingencies."

But ISIS is also training hundreds here in America through social media. And that's been part of the threat to national security.

"It really is an expansion of how the Internet has been used, frankly, for several years now, both in recruitment and radicalization of young people to join terrorist groups," said U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

In light of the terror threat level increase, Lemoore Naval Air Station is asking personnel to be extra vigilant on base and online.

"We ask personnel to report things that are out of the ordinary to authorities so that things can be investigated and certainly always ask our service members and families to be careful about the kind of information they put online, using social media, [and] just to exercise caution and remain watchful," said Lemoore's interim spokesman Lt. Benjamin Addison.
