Slow, hot day for Kings County Fair picks up at night
HANFORD, Calif. (KFSN) -- The CEO of the Kings County Fair said there were more people at the fair on Thursday and Friday compared to last year.
She says it was slow on Saturday -- and she doesn't blame people. Triple digit temperatures lasted throughout the day. But close to sunset, more people filed through the gates. The grandstand was packed with people watching some very loud tractor pulls.
Earlier in the day, a smaller crowd watched the world famous DockDogs make quite a splash. Owners say the heat can take a toll on the dogs. "If you're up there for a little bit putting the dog in a sit, stay and waiting, the dog kind of gets antsy because they really want to cool off," said Candis Amasalian, a longtime DockDogs competitor from Lemoore.
In the livestock area, 4-H member Caileigh Butchnoff says she has to constantly spray her 220 pound hog and give it water. "Sometimes if it's too hot for them they'll get just angry," Butchnoff said. "My pig, when I was showing, it just started running, it was kind of just going crazy and wild."
Saturday was Heroes Day, where all military could get in for free.
Admission to the fair is $1 on Sunday before 6 p.m.
