"Black Panther" director Ryan Coogler honored Angela Bassett as a new Disney Legend.
"My relationship with Angela starts as an audience member first," he said, sharing that the first time he went to the movies was in 1991 to see "Boyz n the Hood."
The second film he ever saw was "Beauty and the Beast" and the third film was "Malcom X."
Coogler shared that when Bassett was brought on as Queen Ramonda for "Black Panther," he was astonished by her work ethic every day.
After a video montage, the Dora Milaje marched on stage and helped welcome Bassett to the microphone.
The actress shared that when she thinks of Disney, "The Princess and the Frog" comes to mind as an example of imaginative storytelling: a beautiful, groundbreaking Black princess."
To the fans, Bassett thanked them and said, "You are the magic."
