Crews prioritizing line control while containing Basin Fire
Crews made big progress in the fight against the Basin Fire in Fresno County.

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- Crews are working to gain ground on the Basin Fire that's burning in the Fresno County mountains.

The blaze burning in the Sierra National Forest is north of Pine Flat Lake and south of Shaver Lake and Wishon Reservoir.

People in the area need to be alert to the possibility of low visibility in the mountains and poor air quality conditions.

Containment on Basin Fire in Fresno County jumps to 46%

Crews made big progress in the fight against the Basin Fire in Fresno County.

As of Thursday morning, the flames are now 46% contained, a jump from 26% on Wednesday.

Line control is a top priority for firefighters as they continue to work on containment.

The flames have charred nearly 14,000 acres with some evacuation warnings and orders still in place.

Even though you can still see the smoke from the Basin Fire, officials say they are gaining more control of it.

The fire was traveling east when it broke out, but they haven't seen it move east in four days.

Creek Fire survivor prepares for evacuation as Basin Fire burns nearby

Shaver Lake resident David Hornor's mindset is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best as the Basin Fire rages on in the Sierra National Forest.

"Being victims of the creek fire, we became sensitive to other local wildfire threats that are nearby," said resident David Hornor.

Last week, as he sat in his kitchen, he could see the fire and helicopters working to battle the flames, so he started to prepare.

Containment on Basin Fire in Fresno County jumps to 26%

Hundreds of firefighters are on the front lines taking on the largest wildfire burning in the state.

The Basin Fire, east of Pine Flat Reservoir, is currently just over 13,000 acres.

Evacuation orders and warnings remain, but firefighters have increased containment to 26 percent.

The high heat is causing an addition challenge for crews on the ground.

Firefighter suffers heat-related illness while battling Basin Fire

Three firefighters have suffered heat-related illnesses while battling the Basin Fire in Fresno County.

Two were flown out by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center in Downtown Fresno. The other firefighter is recovering in the fire camp.

As of Tuesday at 5:40 p.m., the Basin Fire had charred over 13,819 acres. Containment has slightly increased to 26%.

Many areas remain under an evacuation order or warning.
