MENDOTA, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man was shot and killed by a Mendota police officer during a domestic violence-related attack at a home on Wednesday night.
The shooting happened around 7:30 pm in the area of Marie and 7th streets.
The Fresno County Sheriff's Office says a woman called 911 to report that a 30-year-old man was threatening to kill her at her home.
Inside the house, investigators say they found the man on top of the woman as he was trying to stab her with a knife.
An officer opened fire on the suspect, hitting him at least one time.
The man died from his injuries in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
The motive for the attempted stabbing is unclear, but deputies say the woman and suspect had an on-again and off-again relationship.
The sheriff's office has taken over the investigation.
