Merced Kidnapping: Brother of suspect arrested, booked into jail
The Merced County Sheriff's Office and the California Department of Justice arrested the brother of the suspect in the Merced kidnapping and murder.

MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) -- On Friday, a growing memorial of candles and balloons sat in the heart of Merced at the Bob Hart Square, where family, friends, and the community came together to remember the Merced family killed.

On Thursday night, hundreds showed up to grieve during a candlelight vigil.

The violent crime has affected the entire community.

Steve Simmons has lived in Merced for five decades and says everyone is pushing through the pain.

"This is a very resilient community," he said. "We will continue to surround this family, surround this community and embrace what's happened and move through it."

On Thursday night, Alberto Salgado was arrested.

Investigators say he is the brother of Jesus Manuel Salgado, who is also in the Merced County jail.

Jesus Salgado is accused of kidnapping Jasdeep Singh, Jasleen Kaur, their 8-month-old baby and the baby's uncle, Amandeep Singh from the family's business on Monday.

Detectives found their bodies in an orchard near Dos Palos on Wednesday night.

Jesus Salgado will be charged with four counts of murder and kidnapping.

Officials say both suspects will likely be arraigned on Monday at 2:30 pm, but Tuesday remains a possibility.

There will be another vigil at Bob Hart Square Friday night. The vigil is four nights to honor each of the four victims.

If want to support the family but can't attend, a GoFundMe has been started.
