LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Walt Disney Company announced Tuesday that it is donating $1 million of the OneOrlando Fund established by Mayor Buddy Dyer to help the victims and others affected by the Orlando nightclub massacre.
"We are heartbroken by this tragedy and hope our commitment will help those in the community affected by this senseless act. With 74,000 cast members who call Orlando home, we mourn the loss of the victims and offer our condolences to their families, friends and loved ones," said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resort.
In addition to the donation, eligible donations from Disney employees will be matched dollar for dollar.
The Walt Disney World Resort has also been working with Central Florida agencies and to provide other forms of support. They are coordinating with OneBlood to provide five designated locations across the resort where employees and cast members can donate blood, and are working with the city of Orlando and the Central Florida Hotel and Lodging Association to provide complimentary accommodations for victims' families and friends.
The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Disney Parks and Resorts and this station.
