SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Harold, a chihuahua mix, is part therapy dog, part ambassador at the UP Academy in San Mateo, California.
"He is the happiest and most smiley dog," Up Academy Founder Tanya Sheckley says. Harold is also paralyzed, unable to move his hind legs. Although he had been using a wheelchair, its size and design has hindered his mobility.
"We were looking for a new type of device that would be easier for him to maneuver and get around with and also easier for the kids to be able to interact with," Sheckley adds. The UP Academy formed a partnership with the Mountain View High School Capstone Engineering class to design a new harness for Harold.
After a year of hard work, Harold received his new device. The hybrid fiberglass and skateboard device is a success and, for students, watching Harold running and playing is their biggest reward. Visit this page for more information on Harold.
