FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The teenager who was killed in a motorcycle crash in east central Fresno has been identified as 16-year-old Austin Ly.
The crash happened just after 4 pm on Fowler at Tulare Avenue as the driver of a car was turning onto Fowler.
Police say Ly was riding his motorcycle southbound on Fowler when he ran a red light.
He was taken to the hospital, where he died.
Officials say the investigation is still in its early stages.
At this point, they are not ready to say if Ly was riding with a license or permit.
Investigators say they are still working to figure out how fast his motorcycle was going, or if he was wearing a helmet.
They add that the driver of the other vehicle has been cooperating with the investigation.
The Clovis Unified School District confirmed to Action News that Ly was a student at Clovis East High School.
The district has provided extra resources on campus.
A memorial grows the the corner of the intersection for Ly.
Action News spoke to one of Ly's classmates and friend since third grade.
"When I heard about that, my other friend told me it was a bike and I know he rides bikes when I heard it was him I just started crying on the spot," said Ly's friend.
His friend says Ly was apart of the JROTC, was athletic, played football his freshman year, and loved everything cars.
Police say this tragic crash is a stark reminder to drive safely.
