The California Highway Patrol is investigating a car crash that happened on Highway 99 early Thursday morning.

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man has died following an early morning crash in Fresno County that ended up closing a portion of Highway 99.

It happened just after midnight on Manning Avenue near Fowler.

The California Highway Patrol says the driver of an Acura SUV was speeding west on Manning when he hit two raised concrete curbs.

His car then traveled approximately 120 feet down an embankment, hitting the dirt shoulder of northbound Highway 99.

The driver was thrown from the Acura and hit by a passing driver on the highway.

That driver stayed at the scene.

Officials have not yet identified the man driving the Acura.

It took about three hours for the roadway to be cleared and fully open to traffic.
