Woman dies in accidental shooting at Fresno apartment complex, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A woman has died after she was accidentally shot at an apartment complex northeast Fresno on Friday night.

The shooting happened around 6 pm in the area of Fresno Street and San Jose Avenue.

Fresno police say a woman in her 20s was shot in one of the units in the complex but had made her way outside to a friend's car.

That's where first responders found her when they arrived.

"When officers arrived, they were able to contact individuals that the female was with, they did try to give first aid to her and try to help her," explained Fresno Police Lt. Henry Garcia.

"She was later transported to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries."

Police say her friends in the car and people who live inside the apartment where she was shot are cooperating in the investigation.

Fresno Police tell Action News the incident is not being investigated as a homicide and will provide more details on Monday.
