FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A known gang member is now behind bars again, less than a day after police say he stabbed his girlfriend to death.
"The person that is responsible for the death of Angel Hoban is an individual by the name of Michael Gonzales," Fresno Police Department Lieutenant Paul Cervantes said on Thursday.
Angel Hoban was 41 and a mother of two.
Investigators confirm it was her 12-year-old son who found her.
"The fact that this individual came home from school and found his mother, for lack of better words, dead, it's heartbreaking," Cervantes said.
It is the city of Fresno's second homicide of the year.
Investigators say Gonzales was on parole for robbery and was living with Hoban.
Action News saw this sign on the front door that read, "We don't call 911."
"Although he's a gang member, we don't think that this is gang-motivated. We believe that this is a domestic violence issue."
It is unclear what led up to the attack, but police say Hoban's 12-year-old child was key in helping identify Gonzales.
Jail records show that police arrested Gonzales in this area near Sixth Street and Carmen Avenue, less than a mile from the victim's home.
Cervantes says Gonzales was in a separate altercation there.
"We do have some evidence of which I cannot particularly disclose that we believe ties him to that murder, and it was found on his person. It's going to require some analysis, but that's generally the direction we're going in," he said.
County prosecutors confirmed they could file charges against Gonzales as soon as Monday.
