Harris County prostitution sting leads to more than 100 arrests

HOUSTON -- A weeks-long prostitution crackdown in Harris County, Texas ended with the arrests of 140 people.

Of the arrests, 19 suspects were arrested for prostitution and the others were allegedly soliciting undercover deputies for sex, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. Seven of those arrested also were nabbed on drug-related charges. Five already had warrants out for their arrests.

The sheriff's department says the arrests were part of the National John Suppression Initiative campaign, which ran from January 17 to February 7 and involved 59 law enforcement agencies across the country.

Nationally, authorities arrested 552 customers and 30 pimps or "traffickers."
