SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The countdown is now on to the first outdoor professional hockey game in the history of the Bay Area.
The San Jose Sharks will play their rivals, the Los Angeles Kings, at Levi's Stadium in a 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game on Feb. 21.
On Monday, the trailer that houses the state-of-the-art ice making and ice monitoring equipment used to create an NHL-caliber sheet of ice arrived at the stadium.
The NHL has been playing outdoor games every year since 2008, in all kinds of weather.
"Everyone's a challenge, we don't know what challenge that we're gonna be thrown at here, and Mother Nature always wins," said NHL operations official Dan Craig. "She always does. We just try to find a way to maneuver around her, that's all."
The NHL has played the outdoors games in 82 degree heat, as well as pouring rain, so the game is unlikely to have to cancel because of the weather.
