Seasonal jobs start to spring up in Fresno County
Spring is here and that means local companies are hiring once again.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Spring is here and that means local companies are hiring once again.

The go-karts and mini golf course are ready and set to go for Valley residents looking for a little thrill at Blackbeard's Entertainment Center.

"Business is right around the corner. We are getting busier and busier every single day," said Joe Simmons, general manager.

Simmons said they need some employees to help run the center and provide great customer service. Wednesday, they'll hold a hiring fair to meet that need.

"We're hoping to hire between 30 and 50 people here within the next three week, and that's building staff for water slides and lifeguards and all track attendants and ride operators. A couple entry level management positions. We have a lot of spots open."

Several other companies are also hiring including the Island Water Park, which has seasonal jobs. Other companies include Homegoods and Lowes.

The Home Depot plans to hire 180 associates in Fresno. Jobs include sales to cashiers for the store and distribution facilities. Candidates must apply online. According to the Workforce Connection, that's becoming more common.

"Right now, what we're finding is a lot of people have to know how to apply online-- that's the first step. You have to get through the application process and once you apply online, and meet their screening criteria, that's how they do their selection for who to bring in for interviews," said Annette Watkins, Workforce Connection.

Watkins said people looking for a job can use the workforce resources and computers to start the process. She adds those looking for full-time work, usually benefit from working in seasonal or part-time jobs to keep their skills up to date.

Blackbeard's will be hosting the job fair on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. They said people can pick up and drop off applications throughout the season.
