FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Fresno Fuego feel they have scored a goal with the signing of new head coach Sean Lanigan.
"We had a number of candidates from throughout the country, from outside the country, but we felt Sean was the best fit," said Fuego General Manager
Lanigan becomes the 3rd head coach for the Fuego, but the first full-time head coach in franchise history.
"We are going to instill a professional environment, training will be regimented, structured. Looking for guys that want to go professional, want to set themselves up for USL pro and MLS team," said Lanigan.
Lanigan has more than three decades of playing and coaching experience and will add Assistant General Manager to his role with an emphasis on continuing to build the Fuego brand.
"There's a huge reason why the Fresno Fuego have been around for 14 seasons and that comes down to the community support. Now we have an opportunity to bring in a full-time head coach the first one ever that can get into the grassroots and ultimately try to implement some of what we are doing at the senior level with those kids and so it's an emphasis we want to put into the community so he can work with the kids here," said Schultz.
Lanigan added, "Soccer was always my love, as I got through and older and starting coaching I really felt giving back to the younger kids and giving back what I've already experience and learning was my path in life."
