People line up at Valley Target stores for Starbucks Stanley Cup

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Shoppers lined up in the rain to get their hands on an exclusive Starbucks Stanley cup that went on sale Wednesday morning.

Dozens of people waited outside of various Targets in Fresno for a chance to get their hands on the latest edition.

"Because I've been collecting for like ten years now, so my collection goes far back, and then when my friends see my collection, they're like, 'I need one,' So then I got to get them one," said Chelsea Ayala.

The popular cups actually first arrived in 2016, and they weren't very popular when they debuted.

Fast Forward to today with the help of a video showing a Stanley cup surviving a fire.

The Quenchers popularity is projected to skyrocket Stanley's annual sales to top $750 million in 2023. A big jump compared to the $70 million in annual sales from 2019.

Here in Fresno, some waited in line as early as 2 am to get the newest edition.

"I got to get the Stanley Cup, you know, once you start getting one, you got to collect them all," Michael Herrera, Stanley Cup shopper.

Some were even dragged out against their will to help out an anxious friend. as stores offered only a limited number of cups, also limiting how many could be purchased.

"It's only one per person, so you know I'm buying one, he's buying one, they're buying one," explained Jonathan Montoya.

If you weren't one of the dozens waiting in line Wednesday morning, then you will need a lot of luck or maybe some extra cash, as they are now reselling online for a whopping $159.

The Action News crew found the person possibly waiting the longest, getting in line at 10 pm Tuesday so that he could add to his collection.

"This is my third one. I got the peach one, the red one, now this is the pink one," said Angel Valdez.

At this time, Stanley nor Target have confirmed a restock just yet.
