FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A statement was released Tuesday from the family of the suspect in the UC Merced stabbings.

The family of 18-year-old Faisal Mohammad thanked friends for the support in this time of grief.

The statement read, "We also want to express our deepest sympathy to the victims on campus at UC Merced."

In their statement, the family also asked for privacy as they grieve.

Investigators said Mohammad stabbed four people on campus last Wednesday. One of the victims, student advisor Danielle Quiroga, suffered a collapsed lung after being stabbed in the chest and back. A 31-year-old construction worker, Byron Price, was also injured. Yet to be identified is another student and a staff member. All four are expected to recover from their injuries.

Investigators said Mohammad was angry after being kicked out of a study group.

Mohammad was killed by campus police moments after the stabbings.
