Tulare Greyhound crash causes traffic delay on Highway 99, several sent to hospital

TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Greyhound bus crashed into a guardrail on Highway 99 and Barsdley Avenue early Wednesday morning, Tulare City Fire Department authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officials say the Greyhound bus hit a freightliner truck towing two other tractors in the rear. That's when the Greyhound bus traveled into the median and drove through the guardrail that separates northbound and southbound lanes.

CHP officers say alcohol did not appear to be a factor.

Several people riding the bus sustained minor injuries and two were transported to the hospital. 23 total passengers were aboard the bus at the time of the crash.

The freightliner had just one passenger at the time of the crash.

A bus from the Tulare County School District was brought to the scene to help keep the remaining passengers warm until a second Greyhound bus arrived to finish the trip.

Traffic is backed up in both directions on Highway 99.
