Classic cinema: The only Houston theater playing films reel-to-reel
In a digital world, the MFAH keeps classic cinema rolling.

HOUSTON, Texas -- The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is keeping the magic of 35mm films alive in an era dominated by digital movies.

Currently, the museum houses the only space in town playing reel-to-reel films, according to MFAH's Film Curator Marian Luntz.

"There's a true excitement that you can feel in the audience," Luntz said. "It just feels unique, it reminds you of films, that you, depending on your age, may have seen in the past."

The museum plays a variety of classic and newer movies, including Emilia Pérez, which is nominated for Best Picture at this year's Academy Awards.
