DINUBA, Calif. (KFSN) -- An investigation is underway after Dinuba police say the parents of two young children were found dead inside a home in what is believed to be a murder-suicide.
Officers were called to a home just before 3:30 am Tuesday on Hollow Way at Villa Avenue.
They say it was initially for a welfare check but shortly after, there was another call for a possible assault at the same location.
"When the officers arrived they located a young boy outside the residence who told the officers that his parents were deceased," said Dinuba Police Chief Abel Iriarte.
Police found 33-year-old Jordan Porras and 33-year-old Amie Porras with apparent gunshot wounds.
Amie was declared dead at the scene. Jordan was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
Police are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.
Officials say the couple's toddler and their five-year-old son were in the home at the time of the crime.
"Once I read the police came and the little boy was the one that opened the door and he's the one that told the police that his parents were dead," said Leticia Poacencia, a neighbor.
"I can't even imagine what went through (his head), I can't."
Poacencia has lived in this quiet neighborhood for 17 years.
Although she didn't personally know Aime, she says she would see her walking with her children every day.
Both the boy and a toddler were taken by police for protective custody.
Police say they did recover a firearm from the home.
Although they believe this is an isolated incident, they are asking people for any information or camera footage from neighbors as the investigation continues.
